The humanities' Fallen (read: academics who aren't actively in a college or university department), like myself, tend to preen themselves, in order to prop up their self esteem, with their personal libraries. I obsess over my academic bookcase. Every few months, I'll make sure the books are in a particular order: chronological? alphabetical? thematic? Must... re-sort... them!

I would very much like to attend the forthcoming conference, The Future of Continental Philosophy of Religion at Syracuse. My ilk (and a few AAR drinking buddies) will be presenting there. These people do good work. My schedule prohibits me, though.

During my undergrad years, when I had regular contact with the Southern Baptists, a friend called me a "Christian nihilist." I couldn't disagree more. It's not that I believe in nothing. It's that I'm mostly pessimistic about those things I do believe.
